how to study for the science section?

I really don't know much about ACT but I've heard that the science section includes bio, chem, and physics..
I was wondering how I could study the science section... are there specific units that are covered for each subject or do I just have to 'know' everything for each? Oh and also do I have to know each subject in depth? I know some bio and chem but not much about physics..
Thx to anyone who replies :D

Hey Christineekim,

Well, most people on this forum are going to tell you to first of all don’t study any REAL science for this test because everything you need to know is given to you on the test (I agree with this). Then, they’ll say that you should just use real practice tests and get really good at not reading any of the info that is given in the passage and just skip to the questions, using the graphs to answer all of most science problems. However, I find that this strategy isn’t necessarily the most effective way to tackle the ACT science section. After doing 5 practice tests, I found I did notablely better when I first skimmed over all the graphs. Then, if I wasn’t sure of a measurement or term the graph used, I would find the info in the passage. Additionally, if the passage came with a picture (like a figure showing the equipment used in the experiment), I would read the passage for that experiment because I found that almost every time a picture was shown a procedural question was asked about it. Thus, I spent on avg. 20-30 sec skimming over the graphs, which gave me 4:30 to answer the questions. This strategy brought my score (at least on "Real practice tests) from a 28 to a 34. So, idk you might consider trying that out = D.

Wow u r awesome!!! thanku so much!!
I have another question… it’s a bit more general…
Which one would u say is more difficult, SAT or ACT?
I have been preparing and have taken SAT once, and my result wasn’t very satisfactory and I don’t think it will improve that much either if I take it again… so that is why I am thinking of trying ACT
Thx again :)

christineekim, I did a lot better on the ACT than the SAT, so I thought that the ACT was a lot easier. However, there are many people that will say the SAT is easier than the ACT. It really is different for everybody and you should just take both to see which one suits you best. Good luck.

i agree… it depends on the person. personally, i did A LOT better on the ACT than the SAT. but i have heard stories of the opposite as well. it is worth a try to take both, and then see.
