Some things that helped my daughter:
- when you are faced with too much to do in one night before everything is due, and you simply must choose one class work assignment over another, then go with the one that will hurt your grade the most if you don’t do it, and put off what you can (she actually made all As despite not doing all of her homework, because she simply didn’t have time to)
- be prepared to challenge teachers (for erroneous grades or not following grading rules, e.g.), and to also beg teachers as needed (for extra credit work, extra time, sympathy to cut you some slack, etc.)
- reduce extracurricular activities if needed, but keep those that fit your planned major and that involve competitions where you could win some awards outside of school to add to your college application (you should check out NCWIT Aspirations in Computing Awards considering your interests, and definitely learn about coding if you plan on a STEM career – conversely, you can probably forego joining the yoga club)
- reach out to other classmates for help if you are struggling in a class or simply having difficulty with a homework assignment, and/or meet with the teacher
- pay attention to the syllabus for each class to know what counts the most toward your grades, and apply your efforts accordingly
- you may be faced with an all-nighter at some point, but in general try to get enough sleep on a regular basis (the valedictorian at my daughter’s school regularly only got 5 hours of sleep, and would occasionally email my daughter a question around 11:00 pm knowing that she would also be up working hard, but my daughter did aim for 7 hours of sleep minimum, which was still not enough to stave off burnout – so take care of yourself)
Most of your trouble will come from how difficult your AP teachers make their classes. Luckily, my AP Calc teacher was amazing and only required us to show him the homework once a week. On the other hand, my APUSH teacher is perhaps the most hardcore history teacher ever, and so I would spend 2-3 hours a night doing that. If you’re gonna study for the PSAT/SAT make sure to spread it out and start early. Just make sure to not get behind on projects. You seem like a hard working student so doing an entire project the weekend before isn’t likely it seems. I escaped Junior year with my 4.0 intact and so can you. It just takes a realization of what you have to do and when you have to do it.
