How to Switch Major

Hi everyone,

I am filled with questions as my despondency has sunk to a new low! I am applying to UCLA and USC this fall from a California city college. I will have a 3.8 gpa. I also have an internship and am part of the journalism staff at my city college. I am taking 1/2 communication major prerequisites & 1/2 social science prerequisites. I plan to declare myself as majoring in either Anthropology or Women's Studies. How difficult would it be for me to switch majors after hypothetically earning acceptances into the schools? I would attempt to switch into Communications or perhaps double major. I know the schools discourage this, which is why I am willing to wait a year to switch majors.

Would I be applying into the major? Communications is highly impacted - students generally have a 3.9+ gpa.

Would it be equally as difficult to double major? My gpa is inadequate.

Please help me! I would appreciate it very much...

You can try, but don’t be too depressed if you don’t get it. Double majoring would likely be very difficult, I wouldn’t try it.

Ok, I will keep that in mind. Thanks! :)
