So for a few different schools I have to write the "why this college" essay and I'm having trouble even getting started. I really have no idea how to tackle these essays. Should they be creative or just straightforward? One of my top choices is Bates in Maine. I know why I want to go obviously and I was thinking I could start out with a story of my experiences in Maine and how I always wanted to live there and then later go into more specific details about the schools.

Basically I am asking how creative you can get? Is it like the common app essay or is this more straightforward?

I just don't want to end up sounding boring or sounding like every other applicant.
I want to go to Bates because of this, this, this, and this.
