I had not really considered self-studying any exams until recently. You see, I got the prep book for microeconomics and realized that the macroecon material is also included, and now I am thinking about studying that on my own and taking the exam.

The problem is that my school only offers the micro course and exam. How does one go about taking an exam that isn't offered at the school because the course is not?

but to answer ur question on as far i know,
i think collegeboard sets up an arrangement at another school/center for you. But you need to inform them early (like feb-march)

I’m not 100% sure about how this works in other places, but at my school if you’re self-studying, you have to talk to the lady in charge of AP test ordering and the school orders the exam for you (and you take it by yourself or with other people who are also self-studying . . . a strange experience). I think at some schools you have to talk to a different school that is offering it and request to take it with them. Talk to the AP coordinator at your school.
