I’m a future CCC student who I made a general outline with the college counselor today to set up my academic plan. I’m confused on how I would apply to multiple colleges to transfer into my 3rd year. The colleges I’m interested in are UCSB, UCSC, UCI, UCD. My main college is UCI and we made a comprehensive plan of setting up my classes with the help of assist.org and he was saying that if I don’t get accepted when I apply, I have to stay for a third year and build up on the additional requirements to apply again. I see threads on here where people applied to multiple schools, how is this so? Each school has different requirements for the same major so I’m confused.
It can be confusing, but you’ve come to the right place!
Generally, people do as many pre reqs as possible for the schools they will be applying to. First you should try and complete required courses, then recommended courses. Generally, these classes can also fulfill IGETC for your general education.
What is your major? Are you going to TAG to UCI?
Computer science. Yes, I’ll be trying to use TAG for UCI, UCSC and normal admission for UCSB. would all of this be possible in a 2 year timeframe?
Yes. Transferring from a CC to a UC is definitely possible in 2 years.
I didn’t know you could TAG for more than one school…?
Generally, from my experience at least, people seem to focus on one school’s requirements when transferring. For example, I’m making sure to complete all of my major’s prerequisites for Cal. I’m planning to TAG to Irvine as well, so I’ll have to do whatever requirements are necessary there. The completion of prereq’s isn’t completely necessary for all schools - a 4.0 student who completes all of Cal’s prereq’s may also get into UCLA, UCSD, UCI, etc.
You apply for colleges in the beginning of your sophomore year. The UC application allows you to just check off whichever schools you want to apply to. If I want to apply to all of the UC’s, all I have to do is check boxes next to all of their names, and my application will be sent to and reviewed by all of the UC schools.
The requirements should be similar for every school. Focus on IGETC + calc and physics series.
You can only TAG to 1 school.
This was also a concern for me as well when I first entered CC. I’m an Lit major, so I had some more more flexibility and less pre-reqs than perhaps an engineering major. However, it was still difficult to plan classes that would allow me to fulfill the pre-reqs for a UC other than the one that I had the goal of attending (like a back-up, I guess you could say). Especially because there is this issue with class offerings at my CC, it was stressful to even plan how to fulfill all pre-reqs for one school while also trying to fulfill the ones for another school (though there is usually overlap). I guess what has been proven in these past few weeks is that as long as you do as much as you possibly can, I don’t think you will have a problem! I fulfilled all pre-reqs for Berkeley and was accepted. On the other hand, I did not fulfill all of the pre-reqs for UCLA or UCSD and was also accepted to both. Hope this helps!
You can only TAG to one school, so choose wisely!
CS requirements are a bit more lengthy, but I know people who have transferred with it in two years. Of course, a three year transfer is also an option, since you are not penalized for how many years you spend at CC
Oh wow. I didn’t know you could use only tag for one school. Well, i didnt take any AP’s for high school and so it wont transfer for community college. Does anyone know if completing the prerequisites for uci qualify me for the other schools like you guys mentioned for the major, computer science’?
You need to look at all of the assist pages to tell what overlap or not
