Hi, I’m currently a senior in high school. I applied to both of those schools mentioned with a major in CS but got rejected. I had an unweighted GPA of 3.8 and weighted of 4.16. I was wondering if it is easier to transfer from another UC that I got accepted into (UCR or UCSC) for UCB and UCLA. Those are my dream schools and they offer great CS programs. Should I go into another UC or do community college and then transfer in for junior year. I heard about the TAP programs for UC but they are for community colleges and not regular UC’s.
By the time you are at one of those schools for 2 years I doubt you will want to transfer.
Some do transfer from a UC to UCB or UCLA. However, community college transfers are given first priority. You should have at least a 3.7+ GPA to transfer. If you want to transfer as a CS major, the GPA will be even higher, say at least 3.8 to 3.9+. Again, note that CC transfers have priority over UC transfers and even a high GPA is no guarantee.
The GPA needed depends entirely on the major. UCLA gives basically equal priority to CCC transfers and UC transfers.Theoretically, it is better as a CCC student but people transfer all the time from a UC - even to Berkeley.
Here are GPA ranges for majors at each UC.
