How to Transfer to UGA Guide

After lots of research, I have compiled a short guide on transferring to UGA with the help of a UGA transfer student herself! Hopefully this mini guide will give you the tools to a successful transfer application! Note: The tips here do not guarantee transfer admission, it just helps with the process.

First, you can transfer as a sophomore, junior, or senior for spring, summer, or fall. Spring app deadline is Sept 1, Summer is Feb 15, and the Fall deadline is Apr 1. Deadlines are important!

To transfer as a SOPHOMORE, you need: 30-59 transferable credit hours by the deadline, about a 3.2 college GPA, and at least ONE YEAR of college by your intended term of enrollment. If you are applying for fall, there will be a year between fall as a freshmen and fall as a sophomore. (Note: There is no minimum GPA that guarantees admission)
YES, you can transfer in the fall as a sophomore. The key to this? AP credits. If you have 15+ transferable credit hours AND you take 15+ credit hours at your current college in the fall semester, you can transfer in the next fall as a sophomore. This of course, requires some upkeep on your end (if you are in HS and know you will have to transfer, keep up the APs; if you are in college, get a good GPA). IT IS IMPORTANT to have these AP exemptions marked on your transcript with a specific college course title (check transfer equivalency here: https://www.admissions.uga.edu/transferequiv.html)
You may not have 30 credits by the end of the fall semester and that is ok! Many transfer the spring of their sophomore year as well!

To transfer as a JUNIOR or SENIOR, you need: 60+ credit hours by the deadline, a 2.8 college GPA, and at least one year of college between your first semester as a freshmen and the intended term of enrollment. Again, no minimum GPA guarantees anything.
Junior or senior transfer generally have an easier time transferring because they have more to show for on their transcript whereas sophomores may only have a semester or a year on theirs.

UGA does not ask for anything but the requirements mentioned above. They don't ask for SAT/ACT, they don't ask for teacher recs, and they don't ask for your high school transcript. In fact, I have attached the transfer application below so you can see what they require. They want your college transcript and your personal and biographical information.

Again, please note that still about 50% or so transfers are accepted. UGA has a very high freshmen retention rate (~95%) and so they can't accommodate all transfers who apply just like they can't accept as many freshmen as they would like. If you are serious about transferring from your current school, you may want to send some applications to other schools as well.

Best of luck! Be sure to check out the transfer app link below so you can be extra prepared! If you have any questions, post them here or you can PM me!

This is great! Thanks for compiling it. I know many people who are hoping to transfer, so I am going to share this post with them.

@NancyM333 Thanks! Glad it can be of use!
