Currently, I'm a freshman at CSUF.
I wanted to transfer to USC in my sophomore year.
I've seen a lot of websites and threads (college confidential) yahoo answers etc, and I noticed that compare to junior transfers, the chance of sophomore transfers is pretty low. However, I still wanted to try to transfer in sophomore year( if not, then I might as well try again in junior year). My question is what exactly are the requirements to transfer in sophomore year? I only know that you need a minimum of 30 units, but what about other things? (like do we still need Ec's, SATI/SATII or ACT, recommendation letters etc.?)

P.S. My major is Health science @ CSUF now, and I wanted to transfer to their Health and Humanity major. I found their transfer planning guide on USC's website, but, I'm still not sure, if I wanted to transfer in sophomore year, how many should I complete (GE's and major requirements, upper/lower division courses(?))
Also, I tried to email the admission counselor about transfer courses requirement, but I feel like they sounded a little but vague). I'm not sure what to do.

Can anyone give me some suggestions ? Also, it will be better if you tell me anything I should keep in mind of to transfer to USC? THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!

there are 3 pdfs on this page that give you all the information you need.

Hey iwantuscplz, I’m a sophomore transfer. As long as you have completed more than 30 units USC won’t look at your ACT or SAT and don’t require letter of recs. I would just recommend trying to keep your GPA above 3.6 since this year may be more competitive with the common app. Having some ECs are good but are not as important as your GPA.

As for what classes to take you must take the equivalent calc and writing class that transfers over from CSUF (I’m not sure if your major requires calc.) I would look through the articulation agreement and make sure you pick classes that are transferable. During my first year I was able to complete GE 1, 2, 5, and diversity and some econ/accounting classes. I’m a business major so your major might be different but just definitely try to knock out some GEs

Hi trojanlove7,

Thank you for your reply. But, can I ask about how many GEs were you able to complete? And, yes, thank you, I definitely am taking the Ge 1,2,5 now, and possibly the diversity requirement.

I wouldn’t say that the chances are lower, its just that you have less information to work with. I transfered in as a sophomore with a 3.77, 24 units of college course work, 8 AP units, 31 ACT, and I completed categories 1,2,3, and 5 plus my diversity requirement, writing 140, and my first semester of a foreign language.

Hi MissJay!
Thanks for your reply.
But I think I have to have 30units at least. (Since, I didn’t do really well throughout high school). First semester at CSUF, I take 5 classes, but the thing is I didn’t know that 2 of the classes USC does not accept. So, I’ll have only 8 units for the 1t semester. My questions is if I take around 20 units next semester, can I make the 2 units up during summer? Will USC admissions view my application based on my college record? (even though I still need to turn in my full high school transcript)

Hi MissJay,

Just another quick question, if I have less than 30 units, I know they’ll probably based on my high school record and ACT/SAT. Can I retake ACT and SAT? THanks!

Yes you can retake your ACT/SAT. I retook mine, but ended up with similar results. If you took summer courses, it wouldn’t make a difference because most decisions are made before summer classes start
