So I was deferred from Yale. Right after I was nominated for a pretty prestigious award and I'd like to inform them, as well as other colleges I applied to, about this. How do I go about doing this? Write a letter?

Uh, yes? [I think every school S & D applied to mentioned they’d review updates on anything significant that a candidate can add to their application.] A concise email to the admissions office (ideally, to the admissions officer who covers your region) mentioning the nomination and a quick summary of what you did and what the award means will suffice. They have enough to read this time of year already. It won’t get you in, but it might tilt the balance sufficiently. Better, of course, is telling them you received the award Good luck!

It really depends on how big the award is. If it’s not that big, don’t bother because the colleges already have a lot on their hands. If it is a big award, call them and see what they can do. It varies for colleges.

If you’re expecting more awards in the future, wait to update them. If not, go ahead and email them now. Just a quick email to the admissions office.

thanks guys!
