How to update standardized test scores before deadline?

Ok, so some of the schools I have applied to have test deadlines that are separate. For example some schools wanted the application Nov 1st but didn’t need the scores in until Dec 1st. Some schools were a bit more confusing about their duedate so to be safe I went ahead and sent them a pretty good score. I have hopes that super scoring will improve from the October ACT but I can’t know quite yet.

On my applications I did indicate that I would be taking the October ACT.

My question is is it appropriate to email them to see if its still worth sending? For example, if they had already made my admit or deny decision they might not even consider the new ACT score meaning that would be a waste of 12$. However I in no way want to come off like I am trying to get my admissions decision early or anything, For example if I had already been admitted I dont want the counselor to see that and tell me not to send my scores when he/she would tell me to send new scores if it were a deny/waitlist decision. I just want to know if it is worth it to send the new score.

Is it appropriate to email admissions counselors about this? What would be good wording that makes sure that my 12$ will be wasted while not making it sound like I want to know my decision.

If the college accepts the Oct ACT when it has a NOV 1 appplication deadline for EA or ED, you are usually fine that a final decison will not be made on you until after that test is received if you tell the college in your application that you are taking it. However, you might send an email that says no more than you have applied and submitted a test score, that you are also submitting the Oct ACT test scores as soon as scores can be sent, and that you would like the test to be considered as part of your application file. I would avoid asking questions like whther you should bother sending the test or whether a decision has already been made.
