Now I've done this over the past (high) school year, but over the summer I've been a little more flexible sleeping schedule. Now I found out my Phil class is at 8 in the morning (and it was the only time offered that was still open). But how do you wake yourself up at, say, half past six in the morning, then? (After all, I need to dress myself, shower, eat, and actually get to class (I live on the other side of campus, so I'll need to take the early shuttle).

Set multiple alarm clocks. 6:30’s really not that bad, I had to wake up at 5:15 for hs

^ multiple alarms - with loud obnoxious beeps.

set one for 6:15 & 6:30 if you want to get up at 6:30. at least that’s what i do when i need to. and disable snooze…

I woke up at 4:30 every day during the school year. It’s not too hard, unless you’re a really, really heavy sleeper.

if possible, set a catchy and motivated song for an alarm. find something that makes you sing.

I sleep with a hand under the pillow, and to keep from waking up my roommate with a loud alarm, put my phone on vibrate and hold it in my hand–but I don’t move around much during the night. Never dropped the phone or missed an alarm Now that I don’t have a roommate sleeping 10 feet away, I just use the normal alarm settings.

How do you plan on getting a job in the real world if you have trouble waking up at 630

I had a problem with sleeping through alarms, so I got this alarm clock with a giant rumble pad that shakes my mattress when it’s time to wake up.

Actually found out about it through a recommendation on CC.

You would be surprised how many people can’t wake up before 8AM. In college, since you have the flexibility of choosing your schedules, a lot of people tend to choose the afternoon classes. Therefore, when they get an early morning class, they tend to skip it. Just because you woke up at 5AM in high school doesn’t necessarily mean you can do it in college.

I think it just takes some discipline on your part. Try sleeping earlier the night before. Work out, take a hot, soothing shower to slow your body down and listen to soothing music before you go to bed. Also you can kinda practice days before so that by the time classes start, you’ll be more used to it.

Don’t go to bed too late! If you’re in a class thats not absolutely exciting with only 5 hours of sleep you’ll definitely have a hard time staying awake. And don’t put your alarm within arms reach. That way you have to actually get up to turn it off… which helps you wake up. And if you have a roommate and you’re a nice person, you will probably try to turn the alarm off fast… which helps too :)

I like early morning classes because they leave me time to do other stuff, but I also have trouble getting up before 8 (during the summer, it’s 10). What I usually do is set multiple alarms on my phone. If I can’t risk missing an alarm (like when I get up early to do last minute studying), I put my cell phone somewhere I can’t reach from my bed. That way, I’m forced out of bed. Last year, my bed was lofted to chest-level, so once I was out of bed, I was discouraged from going back to sleep (because I was too disoriented and sleepy to foist myself back up). I find that getting up early in the morning is much easier to bear when there’s something important at stake. Classes are, of course, important, but they’re also routine, so it’s easy to rationalize skipping class.

Also, buy breakfast foods you like so that you have something to look forward to once you’re up. My suite had an espresso maker last year, and whenever I got up early, I’d make myself a cappuccino, which was always a nice start to the day.

I set two alarms on my phone usually.

Also, when I lost my phone last year, I used my laptop as an alarm and had it blasting the star wars theme at max volume. Never missed a class.

I am naturally a night person, but during high school I always had a zero period and therefore needed to leave for school at around 6:35-6:40 if I didn’t want to be late. I can get ready in about 10-15 minutes, so I started by waking up at 6:20ish. However, one tip I would give you is to actually wake up a little earlier than you needed. I know it seems contradictory and you probably want all the sleep you can get, but I found out in my junior year that if I arrived at school at 6:20 (leaving at 6:10, avoiding traffic) and spent those 40 minutes talking to my friends, eating some breakfast, or just listening to music, I was a LOT more awake in my class than if I woke up at 6:30, rushed out the door and arrived at school at 6:55 in a slumber-ish state.
During high school, I also took naps in the afternoon pretty regularly, especially since it is REALLY hard for me to go to sleep early. This helped me keep up on my school work and if you can plan to take naps in the afternoon for an hour, it will help a lot.
I also recommend the cell phone alarm thing. When I had a late night, I would set multiple alarms the night before like demeter. What’s nice about cell phone alarms (or the ones I have had) is that you can have a bunch of preset times and just enable which ones you want before you go to sleep. You can also probably set your own ringtone (vibe&ring helps a lot if it is hard for you to wake up) and browse through those thoroughly annoying ones your phone come with, or load in your own. If you have a roommate you can put it on vibrate to avoid waking him up. And funnily enough, I sometimes did the same thing as Cards4Life did, and fell asleep with the phone in my hand which would vibrate in the morning and wake me up. Also try putting it in your pillow, because it will shake your head and jolt you awake easily, hah!

Heh, if I try taking my phone with me to sleep it ends up buried under the covers and muffled.

I set multiple alarms at different times and just force myself out: [SchoolHacking – Never Oversleep Again](http://www.schoolhacking.com/?p=37)

I seriously need one of those.

I set all 3 alarms on my phone in five-ten minute intervals. Doesn’t always work.

It also helps (if you don’t have to worry about disturbing anyone else) putting your alarm clock[s] on the opposite side of the room so that you have to GET UP to turn them off.

if you are setting 4 alarms at 6:30 in the morning you guys better be living in singles…

If you room with someone you just need to learn to go back to sleep.
