How to wake up promptly

For the first time in a while I have class everyday starting at 11 AM instead of 9 AM. Before, I went to sleep at about midnight and tried to wake up a little before 8. I've been trying to do the same now, but I usually end up hitting snooze a few times and then when I finally turn off the alarm I fall asleep again. Most days I just end up getting out of bed after 10 AM anyway.

So does anyone have any advice on how to improve willpower, particularly early in the morning when I just want to sleep. Having all that time in the morning to eat breakfast and get some work done would be really useful.

Set various alarms all around your room. That’ll get you up. I’m assuming if your roommate doesn’t mind one alarm at 9-10AM, (s)he won’t mind a couple (at the same time, it’s all like one alarm anyway). Put them in locations you have to walk to in order to turn them off.

don’t wake up with a ‘jolt’ it sorta ‘rushes’ blood to ur head.

personally just try and sleep early

Go to bed promptly

You will awaken more promptly (and more refreshed and so on) if you wake up in between sleep cycles. Generally a full cycle is 90 minutes, so falling asleep in an interval of 90minutes before you want to wake up might help.

^ There’s an app for that. Seriously. I forget what it’s called but it’s for “sleep cycles” or “REM sleep.”

According to many stories it works.

Get the clocky alarm clock. Nothing will wake you up like having to chase your alarm down.

Set your alarm 15 minutes too early, and place it across the room.
Then you can press snooze 3 times if you have to, before you grudgingly stay up.

Put your alarm clock across the room so that when it goes off you have to get up. Put your to do list and tooth brush right beside the alarm, by having the to do list you’ll see a reason to stay awake and going to immediately brush your teeth will douse you in light really wake up. It does take a bit of will power but less than if the snooze button is right next to you.

Thanks for the responses. I set the alarm for 90 minutes before I wanted to get up then reset it for when I actually wanted to get up after I woke the first time. I felt pretty good waking up the second time. Hopefully it works long term.

It doesn’t work in the long run. I have the same exact problem and did the set the alarm early, have a couple of snoozes. Over time, you become acclimated and can no longer wake up. Does anybody have anymore advice beyond setting it early and hitting snoozes? and sleeping early?

Buy 5 hr energy wholesale and take one every day you go to class so you’ve taken it within minutes of waking up? That tends to help even if it takes a few to kick in.

Get an early commitment that you don’t want to break. When I took a 7am rowing PE class, I didn’t have too much trouble getting up at 6:30am. However, as soon as the class was over, I couldn’t get myself to get up before 8 to save my life.

You are asking for an easy fix but in the end it’s really all about will power. If you don’t have the internal motivation to get up early, find an external motivator.
