How to Withdraw Applications?

My list of colleges has drastically changed since I started applying earlier this fall, so I have a couple colleges that I've already sent transcripts/Part I's/teacher recs to that I'm not planning to apply to anymore.

Should I notify those colleges that I'm no longer applying? Or is it ok if I don't?

It’s a courtesy to withdraw. I just shot out emails when I had to withdraw.

but the thing is, my reason for withdrawing is stupid. i didn’t research carefully enough in the beginning and just started applying, and now i realize that i don’t really want to go there.

how would i explain this to the college? or can i just notify them without explaining my reason for withdrawing?

Would it be better to leave them hanging - or worse, have them admit you over a student who actually wanted to attend?

well, i’m GOING to tell them, but my question is, should i just simply tell them i’m withdrawing, or should i explain my reason for reason for withdrawing?

Just tell them you’re withdrawing. The admissions people are overworked this time of year, they don’t need to know why you’re withdrawing.

I sent short, signed letters informing them I was withdrawing because I had gotten an ED offer.

It’s not a big deal, but it’s still rude to not say anything.

"Date

Name & Address of University

This is to notify you that I wish to withdraw my application from XYZ University. Thank you.

Sincerely,

Your name (typed)"

Sign it and send to the Admissions Office via snailmail.
