How to write a letter reacting to a deferral?

I've been deferred to my top school, University of North Carolina at Wilmington.

Right now, I'm writing a letter to admissions emphasizing that UNCW is by far my top choice. UNCW sent me a sheet with some FAQs about deferrals, and it says writing a letter is a good idea.

For now, my plan is to write a letter immediately to let them know that I'm pouncing on this issue ASAP...and a few weeks after the semester ends I am going to send another letter stating my recent accomplishments along with my midyear reports, midterm grades, a new rec letter, etc...

(I am considering taking the SATs again...please see my other thread <a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/sat-act-tests-test-preparation/641385-will-i-have-enough-time-take-sat-again.html%5B/url%5D">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/sat-act-tests-test-preparation/641385-will-i-have-enough-time-take-sat-again.html</a> )

any suggestions on this issue? any help is VERY appreciated :DDD

I am sorry to hear of your deferral from uncw. I have visited the school and think it is a wonderful choice. GPA is very important to the admissions dept in that school and they report average gpa around 3.8. Your best approach may be for your GC to call or write a letter explaining the grading system in your HS. In my HS, a gpa of 3.8 is the northwestern, cornell, emory level - a 3.8 student would not likely be looking at unc-w. If this is the case in your HS, than have the scale explained to your admissions rep. The admissions reps may not be very familiar with oos high schools. It may be best if you can get someone from your HS to advocate for you. Good luck.
