Hi, so today I had an 8am chem. Problem solving class. The class was over by 8:55am. Afterwards I went to breakfast and decided to take a nap before my next class, which was a chem. lecture at 11:15am. However, the nap ended up being way longer than expectedI ended up waking up at 4pm and thus missed my chem. lecture and my American colonial history class. I told my mom about it and she said I should write an email to my professors apologizing for my absence, however I am not sure how to go about forming it. I feel like saying I slept through your class sounds bad. Please help and thank you in advance.
How big are the classes? Would the professors have noticed your absence?
If you think the teacher would have noticed your absence (the class is small or they take attendance), you can structure an email something like this:
Dear Mr./Mrs./Dr…
I am very sorry for missing class today. I don’t intend to offer an excuse but I do want to make clear I did not miss your class on purpose; I planned to take a nap in the morning and simply overslept. I regret this error in judgement and it will not happen again- I am dedicated to excelling in your class and look forward to the next lecture.
Sincerely,
Your Name
I think Abe Lincoln’s advice may apply here: “Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt.”
Unless attendance is a critical component of your grade and this one absence will really count against you, I’d let this go. People miss classes for a bunch of reasons–illness, car trouble, etc. Leaving the impression with your prof that you’re incompetent seems ill-advised. The best way for you to make this a minor issue is to be a superstar in class from now on–sit in front, volunteer to speak, and of course nail your assignments–and maybe buy an alarm clock or learn how to use your smart phone’s alarm feature?
OP is no longer with us to get this advice.
@romanigypsyeyes what?!
@PleaseStan The original poster’s profile says they haven’t logged in since they posted the question three days ago. Therefore they have already sent the email or not sent the email and can’t do anything with any advice given now.
