How to write appeal letters? (any examples?)

Hi,

After getting rejected by a few UCs, I’m going to appeal to one of them. The problem is, right after I gathered the information and topics that I’m going to write about, I don’t know how to exactly format it. Is there any examples (or if anyone would like to share with me) of appeal letters?

Thanks :)

First of all, what 'new compelling information' are you going to write about? Just in case you did not know, they state that they do not want an appeal explaining how much you want to go to the school with no substance.

Assuming that you have your reasons, and even if you do not, appeal anyways and put up your best case as it does no harm and you never know if they made a mistake. Make sure that you are very clear about what you are missing from your app. Remember they look at your senior grades so hopefully they are good. Talk about some things you might not have emphasized in your original app. Think of anything to put in 350 words and try to pour your heart into it. If you are very sincere, hopefully the admins will feel it and see what they can do. Realize that they will only accept you if you were on the border, so if you are a more than a bit away from the average gpa that was accepted this year, don't worry about the appeal.

Best of luck.

Berkeley doesn't have an official site with the appeals process, but the Pilipino Academic Student Services has a very nice summary of how the whole thing works: http://www.ocf.berkeley.edu/~pass/resources/appeals.htm
