How to's: smilies, quotes, codes such as bold, italic, etc.

NOTE FROM COLLEGEMOM (MODERATOR):
THIS TOPIC WAS STARTED IN ANOTHER THREAD AND I HAVE MOVED THIS DISCUSSION TO ITS OWN THREAD. WALLY WORLD STARTED BY EXPLAINING HOW TO CREATE QUOTE BOXES. FROM THERE, OTHERS EXPLAINED SMILIES, BOLD, ITALIC, COLOR, ETC. PLEASE READ MY POST, #8, WHICH LINKS TO ALL THE "HOW-TO'S" IN OUR HELP FILE ON CC IF YOU WANT TO USE ALL THE LITTLE "GIMMICKS"! HAVE FUN.

[quote]
In front of the quote type this
[ quote ]
only no spaces between the brackets and the word “quote”.
At the end of the quote do this
[ /quote ]
Same thing, no spaces

[/quote]

Thanks, WallyWorld!

Now its on to advaced topics like Bold, * italics * and underline.

Then on to the faces..
:) ;) :cool: :confused: :mad: :p :D :o :rolleyes: :eek:

As I said earlier,

:confused:s and

:Ds and

:ps,

Oh, :eek:!!

So teach everyone else, Wally. This is fun.

Very clever DR J.

For those of you scratching your head (it took me a minute) that was a very clever way to reiterate his "lions and tigers and bears, oh my" statement.

Next quick lesson;
Bold, italics and underline work the same way as quote boxes. So for bold;

[ b ] word [ /b ] Just remember no spaces. Italics use an I and underline us a U

It makes me :) when you are :confused: and :mad: and :p. When you ;) and I see that dorky :D I am :o and :(. I :rolleyes: when you look in the mirror and think you are :cool:. :eek: !

and you can even add

color

:)

OH Heaven's people....I think you should create a how-to-thread with all these dinky-doo-dads.

Wally, I think Sue is telling us to take this outside... Wanna set up a new thread?

Actually, how to do a bunch of these fancy things is right in our help files on CC. Go to this link:

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/misc.php?do=bbcode

Here is the link to our help file on creating smilies:

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/misc.php?do=showsmilies

I am going to break off this discussion and put it in a new thread. Enjoy.

CollegeMom

Now you're all talkin' people!! Keep those appleswith apples! :rolleyes:

Geeeez Sue! Party Pooper! :p

If you dont want to save those links or print them there is a real easy way to look them up. When you go to make a post you hit the "reply" button and it opens the "reply to thread" window where you type your post. if you scroll down you see the previous posts you are responding to. Scroll all the way to the bottom of that page and in blue on the left you see "vb code" and "smiles" just click on them. Then you have them right there when you are posting in whatever thread or forum.

My favorite gimmick I learned from Fishbowl. Hyperlinking within a sentance without the URL showing. How cool is that? :cool: Example;

Real good information can be found by clicking [url=http://talk.collegeconfidential.com]here[/url]

this is ** so ** cool!!! haha

** Hope this works **

red?

[green]WOW![/green]

oops

It’s “color=” before naming the color at the beginning of the phrase.

This might be the record for the oldest thread I’ve personally seen resurrected - 9+ years.

Useful information is timeless.

Unfortunately, every link in the thread to “useful information” is dead broken.
