I have been told that the CS department is extremely tough to get into, but I was wondering what the requirements are(GPA)?

I was also wondering if any other factors are taken into consideration?

Upper division, transfer, or direct admit?

I’m not sure.

My son has been accepted into the University of Washington as an undergrad and he hasn’t got DA into the computer science department due to a deficiency of a fine arts course.
So he has to complete a year of a fine arts course at UW and then apply to the CS department.

That sounds like it would more than likely be an upper division application. According to the historical statistics provided, 15-30% are accepted each Spring/Autumn cycle with a mean prerequisite/cumulative GPA of 3.6+

Thanks MasterKuni.

[Engineering Department Admission Statistics | www.engr.washington.edu](http://www.engr.washington.edu/curr_students/admissions/admitstats.html)

Statistics about UW engineering majors including computer science can be found here…It will also show you the important admission factors for the program. The admission acceptance rate is written as 50%…but the CS advisor told me it is around 30 to 40% with an average gpa of 3.6+

We’re expanding our program, which is great. There will be more seats for y’all here. I posted this in another thread just this morning.

Anyway, other factors include - GPA in prereq classes (if you 4.0 all your general education and then don’t do well on sciences/math/intro cs, that’s not going to tip things to your favor) and personal statement (show your passion here and explain any out of the classroom cs-related things you’ve done - not required to be admitted though).
