How tough is it for an out of stater to get into Michigan? I know they have a loose quota (about 2/3 i-s to 1/3 oos) but exactly how tough are we talking about (anyone know average GPA and SAT/ACT?)

I have seen between 3.4-4.0 unweighted for OOS, but you should have at least 3.65+ and a good ACT score.

What was your GPA (unweighted/weighted): 3.9-4.0 UW/ no Weighted GPA

What was your ACT: N/A
or your SAT: M+CR=1410/1600, 2150/2400

Are you in/out of state?: Out of State (NY)

What was your class rank?: 3/210

How many hours of community service/volunteer work (approx.)?

The consensus is

gpa ~3.8+

I’m guessing the 3.8 is weighted even though at my hs kids have gotten into UM with

a 3.4 and 1900

the average student who went to UM at my private HS is a 3.67 with a 1900- is that well below the national average?

and is there a special law about the quota or the school just likes Michigan kids?

like Texas has the 10% rule and all- is there anything like that in Michigan or does the University favor Michigan kids?

Michigan University admissions favors the children of Michigan taxpayers.
The Texas 10% rule is actually an equal opportunity program to ensure students from poor and under performing schools have access to the Texas university system.

The mid 50% figures for all admitted students are as follows:

GPA: 3.7-4.0 (unweighed…out of 4.0)
SAT: 1940-2190 (average of roughly 2070)
ACT: 28-32 (average of roughly 30)

I would assume stats are a little higher for OOS applicants.

That’s bizarre I have a 2070 on my SAT, a 30 on my ACT, and UMich is one of my top school choices! i’m OOS but also a URM, so hopefully those will cancel out.
