How Tough Is....

Stat 430 for someone who has never taken a statistics course and has no background in statistics? I'm either taking it in the fall or in the spring and wondering how ****ed I am. Thanks to anyone that answers.

It starts with the basics, so it should be manageable.

I got a 740 on both the BIO and Math II subject tests....where does that put me in my eligibility for applying to IVY league (Univ. of Penn., Princeton,). havent yet taken the SAT's (yikes! time's running out), and GPA of above 4.0

I have many extracurricular activities. I got accepted to the PA governor's school of health care, started my own cultural dance club, and secretary of our Asian culture club, on NHS, held many positions in student council.
Does any of this help? i feel like all the school activities will be insignificant.

If you've had math 114 (I think you have, right?) that's all the background you need. You should be in good shape.

You may want to read about Combinatorics (Combinatorics - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia) - the ways to measure/count something. That's the material generally covered first in 430 and it can be kind of tricky (like brain teasers). Basically, it's the kind of questions where they ask you what the likelihood of different poker hands is (how many ways can you make a straight or flush out of all possible poker hands, etc). Having a little exposure to that kind of stuff will smooth your ride into 430.

I've had 114. I'm a bit hesitant to take Stat 430 next semester because that would make my schedule Math 240, Stat 430, Econ 101, OPIM 101, and Spanish 140. It shouldn't be too bad, but for some reason I feel like I might be biting off more than I can chew.
