How true is this?

This is what collegeboard says about Penn admissions, is this true?

Admission Policies and Factors

Very important admission factors:

* Character/Personal Qualities(wow)

 • Essay
 • Recommendations
 • Secondary School Record

Important admission factors:

* Extracurricular Activities

 • Standardized Test Scores

Considered:

* Alumni/AE Relation

 • Class Rank???
 • Geographical Residence
 • Interview
 • Minority Status
 • Talent/Ability
 • Volunteer Work
 • Work Experience

What part of this are you questioning. Surely all of the factors listed will be considered by adcom.....in what order and what critical value....it could vary applicant to applicant. Certainly you know that %admit for legacy is higher than for others.

okay, in particular, im shocked to find class rank only to be "considered", not but even important, whereas something like personal qualities is "very important". I'm happy the way these things stand, but just trying to make sure that they are indeed true.

well, secondary school record is under very important...so what its saying is that its important for you to challenge yourself with a tough curriculum and to do well in that curriculum but if your rank is lower because of electives, etc. its not that important

oh great! cuz i got way higher marks in my 5 ap courses than my eng and fr 11 courses, that's great news! thanks a lot.

They just say that because it makes them seem like nice reasonable people. It's effective PR.

Character/Personal Qualities = Community Service
Reccomendations = Passionate Learner
Essays = Personality More Interesting than a Block of Wood
Having Just High Rank = Grade Grubber
Worrying Too Much About Relative Importance of Various Admission Criteria = Not Seeing the Big Picture

yea itz true

k, guys, thanx, i think i got the point...:)

haha.

I am just wondering where you read this...

Collegeboard wouldn't lie about something like this. The IVY Leage is pretty serious business.

Rank is just considered because a ton of high schools don't officially rank students, especially private schools.

I would also say that ECs are very important rather than important.

Anyway Penn really is about the whole package.
