How useful are undergrad internships?

I'm most likely applying to law schools next fall (graduating undergrad in May '12) and I am wondering what impact an internship will have on my applications? I would be interning this summer (not the school year).

I intend to apply to some T14s and other schools as well. My GPA is over a 3.5 from a mid-sized public university (no LSATs yet). Assuming competitive numbers for the LSAT score (165-170), would an internship make a difference? Or is it something that's pretty much ignored.

I apologize if this is a repeat, but I didn't see any similar threads. Thanks for any guidance you can give me.

The basic rule is LSAT and GPA matter far more than any other factors in admission to a top law school. The internship probably won’t make much of a difference either way. If it’s something that interests you, and you think you’d enjoy, then go for it. However, don’t do an internship just because you think it will help your law school app. Many internships, most particularly the unpaid kind, are a rip off, so beware.

It is absolutely something I will enjoy doing, although it is unpaid. I don’t think that’s a problem however.

Thanks for the help, I appreciate it.
