How useful are youtube views to college admissions?

I’ve been producing music and releasing the music to youtube, and I’m wondering how many views per video/total views/subscribers etc does it take to matter? What about to be impressive? And how useful are they?

Well, I can think of several YouTube users who have millions of subscribers but whose videos are less than spectacular. As with most things, quality counts more than quantity.

Is this thread an actual joke or

Well if you want a straight answer… it honestly sounds like you do this for college admissions. In the long run, colleges won’t give a rat’s… you know what… about your YT views. Do this because you want to, not so you can please AOs.

It’s an activity that people spend hours on each day… thanks a lot… just wanted to know if one of my activities outside of school counted for anything.

Do you know how much effort music producing is? I don’t do it for college, but I was wondering if it will help my application. Is that such a bad thing to wonder about?

The views don’t matter as much as the effort, I would say. Sure, if you have millions of subscribers it would be a boost, but colleges just want to see that you’ve dedicated your time to something that’s meaningful to you.

I, for one, think that’s really cool and definitely worth mentioning on college apps.

Honestly? I wouldn’t be impressed unless a student had subscribers in the tens of thousands; higher is better. Individual views on a video don’t matter unless you’re hitting major numbers. It’s about telling a story: is this a hobby (still worth mentioning if it is meaningful to you), or are you extraordinary, having turned your YouTube channel into a side business or major brand?

Having hundreds of thousands of subscribers would validate that the content you make is actually good, which complements the story and dedication you tell about it well.
For example, if you have virtually no views or subscribers, then for all the admissions know you could just be posting videos of potatoes on youtube (don’t expect them to actually watch your videos lol); I suppose no one knows exactly how much is impressive, but you might as well include it in your application if you spend a lot of time on it.
