I'm in BDP: intro to cultural studies, I have to read 26 pages by wed. I'm starting to think this is what people meant when they say it's hard to get used to the workload. The thing is 26 pages isn't that bad imo but if my other 5 classes were to say have something like that all due at once, well it would be very difficult for me. This is probably what comiclover meant about it being difficult when things are due at once. But this class is only 8 weeks soooo not that long really. But the reason I'm asking about it's usefulness is b/c as of now (who knows I might just change my mind completely later) I'm double major in journalism and asian studies with a minor in english, I chose intro. to cultural studies b/c I thought it would fit easily in with asian studies (since bdps are supposed to go along w/classes you already are taking). Anyways part of me thinks this bdp may be pointless for three reasons, one I already have a minor and the bdp is the minor equivalant for communications students, I'm majoring in Asian studies b/c I'm interested in asian culture and history and don't have that much interest in this bdp except for the fact that it should be easy to fit in with asian studies, and of course part of the reason is b/c we already have hw and I'm a I lowly freshman not used to the college workload. Also, does anyone know if the bdp information sessions are extremely useful? B/c I registered for this bdp on a last min. whim.

Anyone???

I didn’t know what this was, but now I think I do:

[Cultural Studies | School of Undergraduate Studies](http://www.utexas.edu/ugs/bdp/programs/cul/requirements)

I think the classes you would take for this program are worthwhile but I am not sure how useful the certificate itself will be for you. (Most grad schools/employers will not have heard of the program.)

Well the great thing about it is that you are required to do three research/internship things so that helps with job/grad school apps. I believe they help you find research and whatnot as well so that takes some pressure off of you. But it’s also like 19 extra credits and you are already double majoring and minoring so it could be too much to complete on time.

If you have no interest in it, I’d say drop it. Or either drop your minor and stick with it. I don’t think you could really do ALL of that. Unless you can use some of your asian studies classes towards BDP to lower the amount of extra classes you need to take or have a lot of the core classes already finished.

Also did you just register or did you go to an information session and meet with a BDP person before you registered?

Yeah, I didn’t even attend an info session, so I just decided to drop it. Anyways as a journalism student I’ll already be applying/taking internships anyways so really doesn’t do too much for me.
