Does anyone have thoughts after attending Accepted Students day? We were unable to be there but would like to hear about it. We visited it on our own and it made a great impression. FYI, my student is not an engineer, she's more social sciences. So, how do others feel?

Actor123, it was a great day. My S and I had visited Lafayette 2 other times, this was the first organized event by the college we’d been to and the first one since he’d been accepted. We did a formal tour, attended an open house Q/A with a government and law prof, saw all of the potential freshman dorms (all of them, in my opinion, well equipped) and my S was able to talk to some current students about clubs and such. Everyone involved was very accessible, friendly, laid back, in spite of the horrible weather we enjoyed it. I really really want my S to attend, he is still struggling to decide between Lafayette and George Washington.

I agree it was a great day. We also attended the political science presentation which was very impressive. We had been at another college on Friday and the events were far too crowded. Lafayette is a great school with a real sense of spirit. My wife got an MBA from GW which is also a great school but does not have much of a campus and is probably a good place to be if you intend to both work full or part time and go to school.

Glad to hear from both of you that it was a good day and particularly from Maryland that the Government/PS presentation was impressive. Good. No decisions yet but it’s getting close.

And, Off2school, I also agree with Maryland that GW has no campus and is a good place if you’re working. While I was working on the Hill, my friend finished her degree there while working part-time in our office. Just an FYI.

Well fortunately visiting GW at their Accepted Students Day it became very obvious that the setting was something that was either going to suit my son or not. He figured it out very quickly. While he loves DC and I think would like to work in a government/political capacity someday, the atmosphere would be a little too much for him right now, especially coming from a quiet small town. I think he wanted to love it so much, but his personality and what he wanted in a college experience just didn’t marry up with how GW really is. He just wouldn’t be able to take in everything GW has to offer. Maybe grad school…there’s time. In the end, he decided to enroll at Lafayette.

Hi Off2school: my daughter ruled out even applying to GW because of its locale (no “campus”) so she applied to American. She also really wanted to like it, and did, but came up with exactly the same conclusion your son did as well. I see her in DC in the future but for now she absolutely loves Lafayette and is ready to make it home. It’s a wonderful school. Congratulations on your decision.
