After attending three Family Weekends at Whitman, I'm sad because we were unable to make it this year. We won't have another chance, but are looking forward to Walla Walla in the spring for graduation. Are there any Whitman parents who will share their Family Weekend with me? Did you see any great performances and eat at any great restaurants? What was the best moment with your S or D. Thanks.

We had a great time on our first Family Weekend. Hopefully we will make a few more. We ate a lot of really good food, but were not able to get in to some that were recommended. Next year we’ll make Saffron reservations a couple months ahead I guess. But we ate at Olive for the first time…very tasty, took a beautiful drive to Dayton and had a nice dinner at a place called the Weinhard Cafe and had a huge Apple Pancake at the Maple Counter for breakfast. But of course the best meal was Saturday brunch at Prentiss On campus we saw an excellent performance of Tartuffe by Moliere and were serenaded by the A cappella groups on Saturday night. The weather was great (mid-60s and clear mostly), the trees amazing (we don’t get the fall colors much here in L.A.) and the wine was smooth and plentiful…signed up for a small wine club purchase since I did not want to check luggage. All in all, a really nice weekend and of course the best part was being with our D for a little bit again.

tleibman, ah, thanks for that. I love the campus in the Fall, the colors of the foliage is fantastic. We’ve eaten fabulous meals downtown, I love the energy of Olive on a Sunday morning, and I recommend the Green Spoon for a casual delicious dinner. Haven’t made it to Dayton, we’ll have to venture further afield in May. Best of all for me was seeing the student performances, seeing our S’s various living arrangements and meeting his roommates, all such nice, bright, talented kids. Four years flies by so quickly, but we are very grateful that it IS four years, we have many friends whose kids are in the UCs and are taking 4++ years to graduate.
