How was orientation?

If you have already attended orientation, what did you think? Was it fun? Did you get decent advice from your advisor? Did you get the classes you wanted?

don't know about freshmen orientation.. but

b-school orientation? pretty bad.
we had a good speaker and good food though. can't complain about that.

Commenting on last year. Orientation was pretty fun? Your adviser tries to advise you. And I got the classes I wanted.

Its not too shabby. You get a chance to explore the campus, which is nice if you're out of state. Other than that, you'll hear a lot of information you already know (HOPEFULLY!) and only a bit that you didn't.

Are there any organized social activities in the evenings at Orientation or are the kids on their own?

Yeah, there are some group led activites at night -- playing pool, seeing a movie, getting coffee, etc.

no partying? :)

lots of fun... I got to basically register for the classes I wanted but my advisor gave me some things to think about for next semester

How easy do you think it is to complete orientation by 11:30 on the last day? My son is going to try to fly standby on a 1:50 flight home if he can leave AA early enough. Otherwise he has to hang around all day for his 9pm flight out. A long day............

He will probably finish by that time unless he is trying out for the marching band. As long as he has his stuff packed the night before, or before he heads out in the morning, I would say he would have no problem being done by then.

wear comfortable shoes, I walked a whole damn lot. Also, don't count on getting too much sleep. I stayed up until at least 2am every night because there's just so much you can do, and your orientation leaders will be banging on your door at 7am the next morning.

Do they provide pillows & a blanket? (the list of what to bring includes only sheets).

Also, would bringing a laptop be of any value at orientation or would it be more trouble than it's worth?

A laptop would be more trouble than it's worth. I don't remember pillows/blanket thing.

They provide a pillow and blanket. You probably want to bring a pillowcase though.
