Any tips, guys? I'm curious and don't go until July! : )

Anyone? Haha. : )

So, I went to the first session and all I have to say is... Good luck. I couldn't get half the classes I wanted and I went to the first one. They only hold 2 seats for every freshman seminar each session and those are gone in the first two or so registration sessions (I was in the second to last, there are about five or so sessions during the second day) so don't get your hopes up. I went in to registration with almost 10 alternates and still ending up picking classes I hadn't considered beforehand. I mean, I am still pretty happy with the classes I got but it's disappointing to find out going to the first session still doesn't do too much for your schedule. Oh, and I'm pretty sure almost every English is already filled, I know ENGL 102 is and they even told us not to bother with the waitlist because they don't expand class size and no one drops it.

The experience is fun but don't be an idiot like some of the kids at mine and go to the frat parties on franklin street when your parents are gone for the night. If the frats get caught they're not allowed to take part in Rush at the beginning of the year and they'll be bitter. My OL said not to give them a chance to get in trouble because frats will make it their purpose in life to make you miserable at UNC if you're the reason they can't do Rush.

All in all, it was awesome but class registration is something you might want to mentally prepare for. Classes can be changed on August 18th online but there are people who wake up at 6:30 to wait for the site to open classes again so there are no guarantees. At least there is always drop add.

Thank you so much! I'm out of English 101 and 102, so hopefully that won't be an issue for me, but I'm sure there will be plenty of other issues to deal with, haha: ) What day is the Drop/Add Day?

Listen, none of those english classes are filled. Its just that they only open up a certain number of spots in the class for each ctops session. Sorry RLAjen, but you just got unlucky and had a late registration time.

Also, no frat is going to be barred from rush cause some kid at orientation went to a party. Also those wern't frat parties, it was a monday night.

RLAjen, did u visit the dorms? And how was the campus?

As far as the frat thing goes, I was just saying what my OL told me so if it's wrong then that's not my fault. Concerning the english, it's basically the same thing, they just told us they were closed when we got there and half the kids from earlier sessions were talking about it. I'm not really worried about my late registration time since I can just take 102 next Semester.

I know you can start dropping/adding online on August 18th (according to the academic adviser we talked with) and she said that opens at something like 7 am.

I didn't really bother visiting any dorms to tell the truth. I know where I'm going to live next year because I'm rooming with someone who was my senior last year and she already got her rooming form back with my name on it. During CTOPS we stayed in the Connor/Winston/Alexander? dorms which are maybe 100 yards from the pit on North Campus. The rooms were pretty small to me. I live in a dorm now and I still thought the rooms were small but that may have been because all of the rooms has the beds un-bunked/lofted. The only dorm that had an open room was on South Campus anyways and I'd seen that on an earlier visit. There may have been a room you could visit in Granville but it wasn't something I was interested in so I'm not sure.

The campus was amazing. The sky was Carolina blue both days I was there (though it did storm Monday night) and NC summer warm. Everything was green and fairly picturesque in the quad so it was nice to walk around despite the heat.

August 18th is Move-In Day, right? Wow, could they make it any more difficult? Haha. Oh, and what classes did you end up getting (RLAJen07, or anyone else who cares to post)? I'm planning on a Pre-Med/Pre-Dental geared major and am curious about classes. Do we pick classes for both semesters at CTOPS? I'm still plowing my way through the First Year Guide, lol. Thank you to everyone for all your info! : )

Oh, and did you all pick up your laptops at CTOPS? I kind of forgot about that part. ; )

Yes,tell us about the laptops. And how was food???

you will get your laptops on Day 2 of CTOPS. If you brought your own laptop that is also when you will hook your laptop up to the UNC network. Everyone at CTOPs are separated into groups and they are randomly assigned times on Day 2 to pick up their laptop and to register for classes.

Yeah, what TopGun said. As for my classes, I have Gen Anthropology, Family and Society, Intermediate Japanese, Intro Statistics (only because I didn't take the AP test even though I took the class), Intro to Linguistics and the required Fitness course. I'm planning on a Psych psych 101 was filled for the times that fit into my schedule and possibly public health double major but my second major tends to change as I read through courses.

I'm not the best person to ask about food since I go to a boarding school where the cafeteria food is horrendous but I have always thought to food at Lenoir and Rams Head was good and so did my father. I think it depends on how picky you are. I mean, you're not going to get home-cooked meals at a cafe in college, it just doesn't happen but I do think the food is quite acceptable considering what it could be.

During orientation the food is always better at Lenoir. Wait until first semester kicks into gear...

Yeah, Ladyjournalist speaks the truth. Its a lot easier to feed a few hundered than it is to feed a few thousand.

I've also eaten there on two separate occasions when I was visiting campus and I don't know that the food was any better any one of the times I ate there. Then again, I'm weird and prefer Rams Head over Lenoir.
