omg hahaha my interview was today, and my interviewer didn’t ask why penn either! kinda threw me off, but it was pretty good. It was casual, more conversational, but I guess it was still really Q&A style. My interviewer mostly asked questions about me and things that were generally pretty easy, all i did was pretty much translate my essays to talk form, which was really easy for me. And my counselor kept on asking if I had any questions, so I got to ask her a few questions. We both got there early so I think the interview was probably around 30-40 min, shorter than I thought, but I guess it was okay. Overall I feel alright, it wasn’t phenomenal but it was definitely good, not that it will make much of a difference in the admissions process ahaha

hey so I had my harvard interview like an hour ago and this lady was very interested in my golf ball stacking and bowling ball stacking! said it showed that i was an analytical type of person! and she kept going back to the golf balls haha =D finally a success!

haha thats funny! Probably because that’s not something she hears about everyday. So, it made you stand out from the crowd. Success:)

My interview went GREAT… it was very discussion-based and he spent little time on the typical ECs/AP classes questions. He asked me what the core of my being was, what I would do with one free day with no consequences, and how I want to be remembered. It sparked interesting discussions and he complimented me on giving him a good idea of who I am as a person during my interview.

I had my Penn interview today. I think it was the best interview I’ve had so far. It was also my first interview with a guy (I’m a guy) so I’m not sure if that was a factor or not. He was late-30s, I think.

It was at a coffee shop, and I brought my resume. I also dressed in a suit. Better to be overdressed than not, and a resume can be a good starting point for discussion, as well as a reminder for the interviewer when they’re writing up the review and maybe forgot to jot down a couple notes on something that was discussed.

I was informed that the Penn interview is informal and more of a way for them to get to know me and for me to ask questions. I gather from this and other reports that the interview is not a deciding factor in the admissions process, but it certainly made me less nervous about what I was going to say. I also did learn quite a bit about the Penn environment.

My interviewer had a sheet to take notes on; I think it had some suggested questions from Penn (why should we pick you, [least] favorite subjects, if you could meet any three people [living or dead] who would it be and why, etc.). We also discussed a few of my ECs briefly. Overall, it took about 50 minutes. I didn’t feel rushed or under much pressure, which was good.

I feel awkward writing this (what if my interviewer reads CC?!) but this is the question that I think got the best response from him, and told me most about Penn:

“What is most unique about Penn for you?” and that sort of branched out also into questions I was going to ask (but he answered without me having to, yay!): why did you choose Penn?, what about Penn has influenced you even today?, and, how is the urban environment?

I also asked what he regretted not doing at Penn, how the classes/profs were, activities, other study opportunities, etc. I’ve never visited the campus and learning about it was also enlightening, in a good way.

Just got an email a few hours ago to set up the Penn interview for the weekend. Interviewer said to dress casually and bring a resume.

Had a telephonic one just 20 minutes ago. It went awesome! Although I probably screwed up one question, everything else just went really really well :)

I seriously love Penn now. The things and the experiences he shared with me about his time at Penn throw a whole different light on Penn!!

PS- Don’t have any misconception about Penn interview at all. I made a mistake of thinking that I would be asked where all I have applied and then dissing those places and all… Nothing of that sort happened. In fact he said that the college years no matter where I end up spending will be some of the best times of my life…

@phr34k- hey, do you know where your interviewer called from? was he in india too?

Not good. I made the hour-long drive to her office, walked up to the door two minutes before we had scheduled to meet and tried to open it, but it was locked. I call her and ask her politely if she could come down and let me in and she says that she’s not there and that she won’t be for another fifteen to twenty minutes. So I wait. And I wait. 25 minutes pass and she calls, saying that she’ll be there in ten minutes. I wait some more. Ten minutes later (it’s been 35 minutes now) and she finally arrives. I went up with her to her office and we interviewed, but she was quite obviously rushing me, because she had a proposal due later that day and needed to get me out the door at a specific time so she could work on it. So because she was so late, I was penalized. I didn’t get to present a full picture of myself as I had in other interviews. I’m disappointed and I fully intend on filing a complaint once decisions are released one way or another. I traveled 2 hours round-trip to wait outside of an office 35 minutes for an interview that was maybe 20. Definitely leaves a bad taste in my mouth for Penn, but I’m going to try not to let one person influence my opinion of the whole school.

Ouch, that’s an unfortunate experience.

Good luck to all of you!! Remember, the whole point of an interview is so that the interviewer can get a sense of who you are as a person and what you can add to the Penn community. Penn is already going to see everything on your app, so try to talk about things not mentioned on your app and more about YOU.

Also, if you love Penn…tell the interviewer about it!! Explain why you love Penn and what makes Penn unlike any other school in the world. And of course, be yourself. Show the interviewer why Penn is right for you and that you belong there.

And one more thing…if you would like to learn more about Penn, check out this YouTube video called “True Learning-University of Pennsylvania.” It’s awesome. If you have any questions about the application process for Penn, feel free to PM me (I’m not an expert or anything, but I know a ton about Penn and I was accepted ED). :D

@shrey228- Yep he was from India as well…

@complexity (i!)- That sure seemed unpleasant…

I stumbled though when my EC asked me how I thought I was a good fit at Penn… But in the end he himself said my life experiences made me quite unique and hopefully he’ll add this when he writes about me fitting in at Penn :D

Have yet to be contacted for a Penn interview do you guys still think i have a chance for one? Ive had 4 already for other Ivies i applied to and i really enjoy interviews!

@Jbazile7- Yeah, my EC told me that they’ll be interviewing next week as well… And it all depends on the location you are in…

Had Penn interview yesterday. It went well, lasted 45 minutes. Interviewer was a mom and a lawyer. We met at a coffee shop. She was very relaxed and matter-of-fact. She asked about the classes, ECs and “why Penn?” Over all, a very nice experience.

I got a call from Upenn about interviewing my son but when I had my son call back…no one answered? What should I do?

We called back 10x but no answer and no voicemail. Does this mean my S missed his chance?

My biggest advice is to tell the interviewers that you live and dream Penn. I had the question “Why Penn” phrased to me in ten different ways throughout the interview: “What is so unique about Penn?”, “I see you have been wait listed at Harvard, if you manage to get through why will you choose Penn?”, “Can you name any professors of your major”, “Have you visited the campus? How was it?”.

And don’t be nervous at all! The interviewers are amazingly nice people!

Why Penn is always an important question for these interviews, and the more Penn culture you can work into your answer, it seems the better off you are.
