How well do you think my friend fared?

Procrastinating on studying for some APs right now and I figured I'd get CC's opinion on the matter now that decisions are in. He applied to more schools than I did, so I think it's more interesting than putting my own down.

** Profile **

** Academics:**
GPA: ~3.8 weighted (weird system), < 3.5 unweighted
Class rank: 55/350, barely top 15%
ACT: 31

What do you think his results were? We'll see how accurate CC's chance threads are...

Did you read his Chicago ones?

good idea! id say he would get two to three rejections (don’t know which schools though went with a gut feeling)

Northwestern - No
U of Chicago - no
Colorado college - maybe leaning towards yes
Tulane - yes
Hampshire - yes
Emory - waitlist possible
Denison -yes

I agree with Eidda. Precal in senior year doesn’t sound good enough for a white kid trying to get into Northwestern or Chicago.

Sammy, when will you tell us his results? ;)

Accepted at all except Northwestern and Chicago, which were waitlists.

I hope I don’t fail.

I bet this is a trick question. He got accepted to all of them.

what’s his major??

Amere might be right, given that the OP may be trying to suggest that the chancers are often conservative with their estimates.

PM me the results, as his stats are very similar to mine. Very scary, actually.
Is the rank weighted? I’m curious on that.

Northwestern - No
Chicago - No
Colorado College - Maybe
Tulane - No
Emory - No
Hampshire - Yes
Denison - Yes

PM me the results

Northwestern University - No
University of Chicago - No (I’d say yes, but he wasn’t in honors/ap math/english classes senior year, so…)
Colorado College - Yes
Tulane University - Yes
Emory University - Waitlisted then accepted?
Hampshire College - Yes
Denison University - Yes

PM me the answers! Or post them here…

Lantzk - I did not read his chicago essays, but he said they were good and I trust him. As I said before, he tends to write well and chicago was his first choice so I’d assume he put in even more effort into those than into his other essays.

Ampere and silverturtle - I’m not trying to “trick” you guys. There obviously isn’t an objective answer because the process is subjective, but what I tried to do is lay out all of the objective evidence and gauge the accuracy of CCs methodical approach. There wasn’t anything in his application that I’m leaving out, except perhaps a level of subjective detail on his essays. But I stand by what I said, they were definitely very good, but nothing life-altering or profound. Just a good essays by a good writer (objectively).

Toshimelonhead - yes, the rank is based on the weighted GPA. Current Validictorian has 4.67 W.

I’ll give this thread a few more posts before I post the the truth…

What is this “gauge the accuracy of CCs methodical approach?” It’s just individuals posting their opinions, nothing more. Additionally, a sample of one is statistically worthless; so you’re doing this just for fun - which is fine.

Working 15 hours a week is not insignificant. What was he doing?

Imma bet IN everywhere but Tufts-waitlist…
I’ll even bet he got in UCHICAGO and Northwestern

Answer time!

can you give us the answers please?

This guy is a total tease… obviously no such “friend” exists.

Hey, guys. Sorry I’ve left this thread a little dormant for the past couple of days, but I’ve been taking AP tests, having graduation ceremonies, playing sports, etc, etc.

In response to ctyankee, a lot of the posters believe that they can put GPA+ACT+EC into a formula and “chance” anyone here and consider their evaluation supreme. The remark was more sarcastic than anything. Also, he worked as a clerk at a local library.
