How well does the SAT correlate to class rank with your class?

"How do you guys know the top scores in your school or anyone's SAT score but your own?"

We ask each other, that's how. When the SAT scores were released, students asked each other how they did, particularly the smarter kids. No one is that private about their scores.

yup. (10 char)

2340

2340

2270

2350

2150

2200

2270

2250

2020

2140

I only know the top 10. I also know this slacker kid who got a 2200 who is in the top 20 but closer to 20 than 10. Another got a 2140 who is somewhere between 15 to 20. That's about it for the fancy scores.

And as Hepstar said, the competitive kids with the competitive scores share. We all want to know how our friends did!

all i know is our val got a 2200 something, and i'm 7th and got a 2400 (with 2 dates; 2350 w/ one...)...ik that i'm the only one in my school to get a 1600 on math and v (prez scholars showed me that!), but idk specific scores...

idk if it's common or not but our rank is computed at end of junior year, and so the kids that take hard junior year (but potentially easy senior year) get the best rank...not that i'm bitter or anything...=p

"I also know this slacker kid who got a 2200 who is in the top 20 but closer to 20 than 10."

There is this kid in my school who is ranked ~40 (out of about 270 students) who got a 2100. He got into Boston College though, so I guess not being in the top 10% didn't kill him.

There is also a kid who is about in the middle of the class rank-wise with a 30 ACT score. This is really amazing since the ACT scores in my school are pathetic compared to the SAT scores (In my school, no one gives a s**t about the ACT). The kid is lazy as hell, but is really good with computers.

To make things interesting, what's the lowest score in your school? Most years in my school, scores cluster around the mean. In other words, there usually aren't any amazingly high or low scorers each year. Most years, the highest score is in the high 1400s (out of 1600) and the lowest score is in the 700s (out of 1600). My class is unusual, as we have 4 kids over 2200. I don't know the lowest score in my class, since the lower scorers would be less likely to disclose their scores. It is probably in the 700s though like most years.

1- 2300
2- really low
3- 2070
4- 2170
7- 2210
10- 2210
15- 2330 (she lies like hell but everyone believes her)

yeah, especially if you get a 2380. then you "accidently" tell the whole school.

In our grade (180 kids)

2400

2370

2400

2380

2320

I'm 20 with 2340

Not well at all. At my school, NO ONE studies or preps for the SAT. Everyone just basically wings it. If you ask a person if they studied, they look at you like you have three heads because they don't think you're supposed to study, and they don't think ANYONE does. =/

There's a bunch I don't know (kind of an awkward question to ask someone):

?

2240

2040

2350

?

2070

?

34 ACT (Me)

2110

2 people tied - one below 2000, the other between 2000 and 2100

My score on the ACT was thirty. I'm somewhere in the bottom hundred or so out of over four hundred other seniors.

I'm a junior so I haven't the slightest idea what our ranks are yet. Ours would be out of about 500 so I rank myself in the 150-200 vicinity. Suprisingly only about 10 juniors took the Jan SATs and I haven't discussed results with any of them since it's Winter Break now. But for PSATs the top 5 students (all guys for some reason) all got in the 220-230 range so I'd say it compares correctly.

For my school, I'm the only one in top who scored highly on the SAT. My friend is way down in the ranks, but has a 2380. Another friend of mine also got a 2360. None of them are in top 10. I'm the only one in top 10 with a similar score (2400), and I'm the number 2.

She won't tell anyone.

in the 1600-1700 range

2000

2000

in the 1700-1800 range

(me) 2040

I think I have the highest.

^^^ Dude, you have a rettaurdded class.

2330 (me) :)

Something...won't tell anyone

Something...won't tell anyone

Won't tell

I'm not too sure the SAT went to well for these people. It's particularly weird b/c they usually always tell their scores on other tests...BUt doesn't look good b/c many said they got ~100 pts off on Math portion, so ahhaha, not close to my score. :o (As I would say, never be ashamed!!) Kinda Sad.

definintly no correlation in my class!!!
I'm #3 with a 1910!!!
and #2 has lower than me

1 I dunno because she won't tell anyone!!! (i don't like her)

You people should not have any idea what the top scorers get and what their rankings are.

I know that if I was valedictorian and not one of the highest scoring test takers that I'd feel pretty bad knowing people are talking about me.

^^^Eh. Life can be catty--people are probably talking about you anyway, especially if you are the Val. I don't know ALL of the top kids ranks and test scores (my class is 770 people, after all), but I know a lot. I spend the majority of my day with the same kids, and I'm sure it's the same for a lot of kids on here--everyone is in pretty much the same AP/advanced/honors/whatever your school calls them classes. After awhile, you start to know everyone's business!

Yeah Geddes, the only reason a val might feel bad is because they realize that some people are better than them in some areas.

But it's pretty laughable with people who "won't tell." Like they all arrogant or something or ashamed. What's there to be ashamed about? I got a 2 on my AP Spanish and I didn't try to hide it. Do they feel as if they're insecure about their own academic status at the top of the class?
