<p>I was thinking about volunteering in the VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) program. Among the obvious reasons of wanting to give back to the community and do a good thing, I was hoping it might reflect very well on me as an applicant (accounting). However I'm also attending college full time and if it won't help my prospects much I feel I might be better served focusing all my energy towards my classes.</p>
<p>I’ve been asked specifically about my participation in the program during internship interviews, (for the record, I did not participate). It will help, especially if you have an interest in tax. The way I see it, is you have to be able to sell that experience to keep moving up. If you can do that you’ll get where you want eventually.</p>
