i used a personal experience, hamlet, and carrie bradshaw from sex & the city.

regardless of what score i get on it, it OWND

then again anything with carrie bradshaw owns and deserves a 12.....right? haha

Am I the only one who wrote 'against the prompt'? =/

EDIT: Is this bad? In the future, should I write 'toward the prompt'?

How was the prompt phrased?

i used derek jeter (average baseball player worked hard nad now is captian of ny yankees) , and my "retarded friend acheiving his dreams of college" lol

How was the prompt phrased?

i remember 100% but it was basically "what is more important to success? persistence or ability?"

i used Helen Keller's example.. would that work?
cause she was disabled but had persistence& gave hope to others

ya that one works, you can pretty much use any success story and say they were persistent, even if they had the ability you can say they wouldn't have been successful without persistence.

i did persistance.

-sir gawain and the green knight.
he knew that he would have to keep his promise after he chopped off the green knight's head. on his journey, he refused to turn back, and as a reward, the green knight spared his life.

-the grapes of wrath
the joads lost both grandparents on the way to california, but when they arrived, they knoew that the deaths didn't go away in vain."

good?

It's not bad to write against the prompt, I'm pretty sure they don't grade so much on the context of your writing but rather the structure and all that

here is the problem with these essays:
alot of you guys just gave examples of people who were persistent and suceeded without that much ability

however, only a few argued WHY persistence is more important than ability

anyways, alot of examples could be bad.
Like Michael Jordan, i know he did make varsity on his high school basketball team and he kept trying, but when he became successful it was as much to do with talent than persistence...i mean who else do you know can dunk a basketball from the free throw line...thats all ability

but essays readers dont care, the more you write the better

all you really had to do was

"heres blah blah blah" "he was made fun of growing up, wanst very fortunate economically, so he didnt receive education, didnt learn as much as others" "yet he went on to become blah blah and do blah blah

Do that for three different people...you dont really need to argue WHY but just say hey this person did it so thats why

And i like it how we are all talking about ti when they said not to discuss it lol

Abe Lincoln

bob, i really don't think it was that important.

you have 25 minutes to write the essay, as long as you discuss persistence or ability it is fine.

but besides i did mention ability =)

ya but the better question is are we seriously supposed to be discussing this?

what about abigail adams letters to his husband about women rights? is that an ok example?

i got a 12 on my last essay in June, dont know how lol

are personal examples bad to have on essays?

no they dont care

guys is abigail adams example ok?

also, saying that i earn a 12 on the essay, anybody knows how many multiple choice i should get right in order to get a 700 Writing Score?

lmao at the person who said that he/she could not remember the author of Beowulf

So unlike (it seems) most of you, I said that the two were equally important in determining success. Oh, and I used Hester Prynne (it's a long story) and Michael Phelps :D

with a 12 essay -9 is a 700
