Just had my "informational meeting," which lasted like 25 minutes. Ugh it was so awkward. Am I screwed? What about you guys :L

The informal interviews mean practically nothing, don’t worry about them at all.

Ah, I hope so <_<

My D never was even called to set one up & she was admitted, just a way to keep alumni involved so they will keep “giving”

I Was an alumni interviewer for many years. We were told that the reports we submitted were almost never given any consideration. Our job was to sell the school and to remind the applicants of the resources they had to get questions answered. They told us that once in a while something came out in the interview that wasn’t reflected on the application but otherwise we would be ignored.

In case anyone has an interview coming up:
I had my interview today and it was the best one I’ve had thus far! It was all CORNELL CORNELL CORNELL the whole time, but then again I had prepared a lot of questions beforehand. My interviewer was very kind and relaxed and we had a regular conversation. I know it’s hard NOT to be nervous, but when you know the interview doesn’t count for much (see above post by diesneydad), there’s nothing to sweat. I would recommend having questions prepared so that it’s not awkward. When we had finished going through my questions, my interviewer asked questions about me, but I think it was more out of interest than obligation.
Side note- Don’t prepare questions that can be answered with a google. Make sure to ask questions that you actually have / about the cornell experience (alums LOVE that question, seriously). If you do ask a question about the experience, it’s easier if you make it more specific (such as “what is your favorite class memory?” and the like). I wore a dress and a cardigan & the interview lasted 1.5 hours.
