How/when to schedule college interviews?

I know interviews, in most cases, are not mandatory for college admittance, but I've also heard from a few people that it's a good way to increase your chances of getting in.

So I was wondering, how exactly and when do you schedule interviews? Before or after applying? And do all universities conduct interviews?

Thanks for the help.

some colleges have on-campus interviews. schedule them if you plan on visiting. some others will contact you once your app is completed. The vast majority don’t do interviews

but I’ve also heard from a few people that it’s a good way to increase your chances of getting in.

They are mistaken. Only if you’re Will Smith’s character who gets into Princeton with an on the spot admission in “The Fresh Prince of Bel Air”

I wouldn’t say it’s completely wrong. Some colleges (especially small ones) do value a show of interest (there’s a current thread on this) and visiting and having an on-campus interview, if offered, will show interest. Fridays and Mondays are the more difficult days to schedule interviews, so call a few weeks ahead if possible when you are planning your visits. Most schools won’t interview students until the June before their senior year.
