How will a B in Precalc affect my chances for Engineering?

Say in theory since I'm still a junior that I'm applying to schools such as Boston University, Tufts, and Johns Hopkins for Computer or Chemical Engineering. All my grades will be A's except for one semester in junior year where I happened to make an egregious mistake causing me to get a B in pre calculus. I'll have an 800 in SAT II math and an 800 in the math section of the SAT reasoning. My chemistry SAT II will probably be around a 700-750 and SAT II literature will be around 700-750 as well.

How much will the B bring me down? I possibly will take Calculus AB over the summer in order to show my competence in Calc, but I'm not sure yet.

u do NOT need to worry, most of the ppl i know who got into stanford/berkeley/mit etc definitely got 2 or 3 bs…just make sure u dont get more than say 4 and i think you’ll still hav a good chance at top colleges :)

Thanks MssAlyCat. How much worth would it be to take Calc over the summer to show that it was a once in a semester thing that happened in Precalc? I’m certain I can get an A over the summer.

hmmm i took calc bc my jr year, so i wouldnt b able to tell u how the summer class is (is it calc bc equivalent? cuz i think colleges like to see a 5 on that ap test). im assuming ur going to take stats snr yr? if not i think u should just take calc sr yr and use the summer to do some fancy intern (dont forget to apply to them!) or take some class ur hs doesnt offer to bump ur gpa

B from precal does not look too good for JHU

take cal 1 over the summer if you are applying to top colleges

I really think I will take AP Calc 1 over the summer and then AP Stats senior year as that is the highest level of math my school offers.

what about sciences too?

Right now I’m taking AP Chemistry and I’m doing very well in it. My school offers AP bio, AP physics and APES. I’m planning to take AP physics next year.
