So I asked my math teacher of two years (AP Calc BC + Multi) for a recommendation letter.

Today he showed the rec he wrote for me. It was pretty normal, basically the first page talked about my math skill, and how I'm taking a Princeton math course currently. He also lists my math achievements (which I'm a bit 'meh' about... since it was basically copied exactly from my resume. I suppose I'll have to change my resume a bit now) and he talks about my officerships of various math related clubs.

The second page talks about me in class, how I always did homework, I was hardworking, friendly, mature, etc. etc.

So it's all fine... but then the last line... in bold.. he wrote:

"_______ _____ (my name) is awesome!!!"

before ending it.

I'm just wondering... how do you think admissions officers would feel about that? Would they take it as the teacher's enthusiasm, or would they feel it's off somehow... or worst of all: would they think that I wrote the rec for my teacher? :|

Mangoes are pretty effin delicious/awesome.

I don’t see how any admissions officer in his or her right mind could consider this bad. Recommendations aren’t supposed to be formal essays. The purpose of a recommendation is not to show how talented the teacher is at writing either.

I’m surprised he showed it to you. Usually you waive your right to see the LOR. No worries. Perhaps he was writing several letters for other students and he wanted yours to stand out above the other students he was recommending.
I wouldn’t give it much thought.

A lot of teachers at my school voluntarily show the LOR to the students.

I’m just worried because that line doesn’t match the tone of the rest of the letter, which is more serious/impersonal. It’s exactly like the teacher, who’s usually very very serious during class. He doesn’t even allow us to talk to each other much, unless we’re working on problems together. But then he’ll do something totally outrageous about once every few weeks… like spin around in a circle and say “Yippee!” when someone gets a hard problem right. haha
