I am a junior in high school. My situation is that I signed up for this ap class that I cannot stand anymore. I made a REALLY stupid mistake signing up for it. Right now I am straight-out failing it. I really think I should drop it because at this point, the best I could get at the end is a C. I was wondering how bad it would look to colleges when they see either an I or a W on a transcript. The reason I am not doing well in this class may be because of this disability I was diagnosed with. This class has absolutely nothing to do with the major I am planning to pursue. I am also taking an extra class (it is weighted) so if I never signed up for the class in the first place then it would be fine at my school since I would have six classes anyway. So far in my academic career, I have had almost all A's and a few B's. My unweighted GPA currently is 3.9 and my weighted GPA is 4.8. I could take an online version of the class online next semester but it is not honors or AP but it's a definitely doable A.

Hi Korean101,

I haven’t dealt with this particular situation before; however, I will attempt to give you my suggestion and my best advice on this issue.

In most cases with a “W” or “I” on a transcript in applying to a college, it looks bad. With that being said, they will see that your GPA is really good, and there is a good chance for you to explain your W or I, which in this case, explaining about your disability.

I would recommend speaking to your school counselor about this before making the decision. They are there to help you and to see if there are other options that could help raise your grade up without having to drop the class.

I highly recommend asking college experts about this particular case over at CollegeZoom’s Q&A section because I can’t give you further detailed advice on how college admission officers view something as this. It’s referenced at the bottom just in case.

I hope there are others that can give you better advice. Good luck on the class!
