how will college admissions look at online ap courses

my school doesnt allow me to take AP ENG and AP USH because i am an international student and i came to shool during soph yr. i am wondering if i take these courses online, how will college admissions feel? will they be treated equally with ap courses in school? what if i tell them that i cant take them in school because of conflicting schedules? what if i take ap courses online which are not provided in school? thanks so much~

Online AP courses will be treated the same as a physical one (for lack of a better term.) I assume by this you mean VHS. Colleges will appreciate the fact you are trying to challenge yourself and take courses not offered at your school. Go ahead and take them online

What WILL affect college admissions, however, is if someone self studies for AP tests without taking the class. This can be harmful.

Don’t lie; you do not know if it will be contradicted in a recommendation. In any event, the GC can mention school policy in his/her rec. Colleges will not fault you because school rules preclude you from taking the class.

Coordinate with your school to get the online courses on your transcript.

If they truly offer them but do not let certain students take them, a letter or note on your file might be necessary.

My son self-studied for an AP exam and got a 3. It was more to prove to himself what level of mastery he had of the material, since he was told he couldn’t take the AP class due to too low grades.
