AP Chem is the hardest class at my school. I'm taking it as a junior, will finish the year probably with a D+ or a C <probably a="" c=""> but I will most likely <definately> get a 5 on the exam. What will colleges think of this?</definately></probably>

Hmmm...hard to say...I think colleges probably get a lot of kids with C's and D's in AP classes 5's on the exams but unfortunately, many of those kids with C's or D's in AP classes only get 5's on the exams because they cram like hell before exam week or get a tutor. The AP exams are designed so that you can get a 4 or a 5 by slacking off the entire year and cramming right before the exam. I slacked off in Euro first semester this year (I got a C)...but I'm not worried about the exam. I know I can get a 5 by cramming. I probably shouldn't think that way, but meh.

This isn't to say that there aren't kids in your situation who really do have an AP class harder than the rest...but colleges probably get the "my AP _____ class is the hardest at my school" excuse quite often. Your best bet is to try really hard for what's left of the year and try to manage a B, and when you are faced with explaining the difficulty of your AP class, try to explain specifically what makes the AP Chem class at your school more difficult than the AP Chem classes at other schools.

I do wonder, though -- why are you so certain that you'll be getting a 5 on the exam?

i know the material AND
our teacher uses old AP exams as our tests
so a 50% would be a 5 on the exam, but an F in my class.
+ i got a princeton review book, and after reading that, there's no way i can't get a 5 to be honest

Captain, I took AP Chem as a sophomore. I had a B in the class, and my teacher also used past AP tests. He curved them based on the actual results from that year's test, how many points the current class got and how well other classes did on that test.

I got a 4 on the exam. Do not be certain of a 5, because believe me, AP Chem is extremely difficult to do well on.
