EDIT 2
Made a mistake in my 12th grade schedule

Test scores are okay; GPA looks pretty bad. Assuming you don’t have that great ECs, and that you are an ORM, Columbia looks out of reach.

These aren’t hooks.

The good thing about your grades is the upward trend, but the Cs are gonna hurt.

For Columbia and other top-tier schools, your SAT IIs are low. Also, most schools look for Math II rather than Math I.

What about your ECs/leadership postiions?

I’d say out of reach Columbia as well. Your GPA is over a full point lower than the scale.

added my EC’s

That’s not a hook either. :stuck_out_tongue: Hooks are URM, first generation, recruited athlete, legacy, etc.

Your ECs are interesting. The music…very interesting. Lol xP If you can show your passion through your essays, that will certainly help a lot, but I think Columbia is a bit out of reach. You should still try, of course.

What about for NYU?

my bad for not understanding what hooks are… lol I always thought it means “cool extra stuff” xD

I’ll edit and write “other stuff”

Edit: Darn, passed edit time… now I’m gonna look like an idiot until this thread dies… hahaha)

I think you should be okay for NYU. Your SAT is way above their average; however, I suggest you retake your SAT IIs in the fall, and make sure to get good grades your senior year.

anyways the only thing I have to say that I’m definitely confused about is what it considered good grades and what isn’t.

Cause by the standards at my school, anyone on this site would be the top student in the school. Perfect GPA’s? unheard of around here. but i think colleges somehow know that things are different in my school. In fact, my sister had grades like my 9th grade all the way through high school and she got into Binghamton (graduated, actually)

Or maybe they just get confused by our GPA system. hahaha.

Well as far as I know, Cs hurt your application. A perfect GPA is not necessary, though.
