How will colleges verify race on applications? (UC and Common App)

Hello,

I just submitted my UC application and on the application I put myself as Hawaiian, Asian, and Middle-eastern. All of this is true, but i was concerned about the inconsistencies between my high school records. On other records, my answers for race were all different simply because I was unsure what to put. Sometimes I would put asian only, sometimes mixed, sometimes asian and white (because I was unsure what MidEst. counted as). Do colleges check on race and will these inconsistencies affect me negatively?

The UCs generally don’t take race into account heavily while making decisions, so I wouldn’t worry too much about. You could shoot them an email explaining your circumstances just as a precaution.

UC’s don’t use affirmative action, as indicated by previous poster. It’s illegal to use or base ethnicity for admissions in the public schools of California.

ME is usually white.
