How will Columbia see this?

Well I found out today that Egyptians, like myself, are considered minorities (that's good for me). However, on common app I had to put "White-Middle Eastern" ...since Mid-East and European was under white. I did tell them however that I was born in Egypt.

Would that, putting white, ruin this possible hook? :(

I seriously need all the hooks that I can get O.O

“adding up” hooks doesn’t really do much.

A hook is just useful when they have tough the choices. Like if you’re right on the edge. Or if they are comparing you to another student. Of if they have very few spaces remaining and many very similar candidates.

Yeah I know, but you didn’t answer my question though lol.

I’m not sure how useful being Egyptian is.

However, the fact that it is categorized as white doesn’t affect the influence it has/doesn’t have.

If they choose you cause you’re Egyptian, thats that. If not they don’t.

They are not computers which calculate your “acceptance score” based on some formula which says “if black || hispanic, AdmissionScore *= 2; If white, AdmissionScore stays the same.”
They are human beings reading your app.

And they are also intelligent enough to know that you are Egyptian whether or not you had filled in “white”. They aren’t gonna be like “oh he’s a white Egyptian, that changes everything”

Get what I mean?

Yeah of course. BTW I was asking because I may be as you said “right on the edge” (with my current SAT score). Or I could be a good match depending on how I do on the SAT this Saturday. :S

BTW good luck to all whom are taking the SAT this Saturday

I think Egyption is slightly favorable, especially if you were born there.

Haha, it finally payed off in something lol.
