I bombed my first chemistry test last thursday. I am not sure if I can atleast get a B in the class. I cannot afford to get a C. How will dropping the class affect my aid.btw, I am taking 12hrs and chem is 5hrs

You need to ask your financial aid department. There is a rule for federal aid that you have to have completed and passed a certain % of cumulative classes attempted to remain eligible for aid. I think it is 75%. If this is your 1st semester then dropping 5 out of 12 hours would take you to 58% - well below the 75%. They *may *just put you on financial aid probation for next semester. In that case you would have to make very sure you meet the requirements of the probationary period or you would lose aid the following semester. It is very important to check with your own school for how they handle this and the fact that you will be dropping below full time.

If you have any merit money in the mix be sure to check out specific requirements for those awards as they generally have minimum credit requirements as well as GPA requirements.

You definately need ot speak with the FA Office. Federal aid is also based on status: full time (12+ credits), three-quarter time (9-11 credits), half-time (4-8 credits) and less than half time (3 or less credits), per semester. Dropping the chem course may take you from full time to half-time status and result in some aid being automatically reduced.

OP, are you a freshman? I’m not sure dropping chem after your first blown exam is a good idea. Have you met with the prof? College is a lot different than high school & a lot of students have a rude adjustment period (I should know - I had one myself!). You have to learn to deal with it.
