How will dropping a language affect my admissions?

I currently have a C- in Honors French IV, which does not reflect the amount of effort and work I put into the class. I am thinking about dropping it, but I am nervous that it may affect my admission into a college.
If I drop French, I am switching into Choir, which is what I previously wanted to do, but it conflicted with French. It is about a week past the deadline to change classes, but considering how little work they have started, I am pretty sure I could change into there.

TDLR; Wait a quarter and see how I do in French IV or drop now, guaranteeing the chance I could get into choir, but possibly souring the responses for the admissioners?

Look at the HS recommendations/requirements of colleges you plan to apply to and see if they want 4 years of a foreign language or not. There is no one right answer fits all. As to if you can switch classes after the deadline, that is something you need to take up with your guidance counselor.

I think that this is up to you. One of my daughters did just fine with college admissions after only two years in high school of a language.

If you do stick with French, you might gain a bit by watching movies or TV shows on-line in French. In high school I used to watch the news in French which had the advantage that I already had a pretty good idea what they were talking about from having first watched the news in English. Oddly enough the BBC also has pretty good French videos on-line. You could also see if any friends from your French class want to have a “déjeuner français” where you get together for lunch one or two days a week and attempt to speak French for the entire lunch.

If it were me, I would probably do the choir.

With level 3 foreign language, it would be fine for most school and better than having a C- grade that lowers your GPA.

I just checked and the person who does choir said it would be fine to switch in. People I know get A+'s in the class. Final Decision: Stay or drop?
