I am taking 12 credits and have to withdraw from two courses, and so in total I will be keeping 6 credits. I wanted to know how that will be affecting my future aid, and if I will have to pay for the classes that I dropped? and if so will I qualify for aid before I pay it back or do I have to pay for it first to get aid in the future?

1st - Talk to your FA department before you drop classes.

if you are past the 100% add/drop period at your school then you will probably have to pay in full for the classes. On top of that you may have to repay some of the current semester’s FA. Federal aid such as the Pell requires you to complete a certain % of a class (somewhere in the 60% region) in order for you to be eligible. If the money has already been disbursed, and you do not meet the requirements, you have to repay the money. If you have any institutional aid, check the requirements for that as well. Often it requires that you are enrolled full time.

Dropping classes can make you ineligible for aid for the next semester. Schools have to have a SAP policy (Satisfactory Academic Progress) to determine eligibility for aid. It usually includes a minimum % of successfully completed credits, a minimum GPA etc. Even if you have paid for classes out of pocket, you have to meet SAP to be eligible for future FA.
