How will failing a pretaken class hurt me?

I took Physics my Junior year and passed with an A-. I am now in my Senior year and I was placed into it again to fill my schedule because there weren't enough open classes. Since I cannot get a credit for a class I have already passed, I was thinking of not doing anything in this class so I can concentrate more on my Calculus class. This means that I would be failing it. Since I already took the class once and passed with a great grade, would it hurt me much to fail this class? I need to know soon because the class just started and I've only blown off one homework assignment.

Thanks for any help I receive.

Whatever you do, don’t just blow off the class (even if you’ve already done it). That’s an automatic red flag to adcoms. Your GC should have explained the reason for the retaken class in his/her letter.

I think I should have been more clear. I am a Senior in high school not college. I just want to know if this will cause me to be unadmitted from the school I will be attending in the fall. I wasn’t making up what I said about filling my schedule, those are not my words. Those ARE the words of my high school GC.

Your HS counselor is a nitwit. There should have been something else you could have taken even if it was just phys ed.

But be that as it may, you had better get a good grade in this class. It will look terrible if you wipe out after having previously earned an A-. Talk to the teacher and see what you can do to be certain to get at least that good a grade this time around.

Even study hall would look better than a D or F in a pretaken class. GET OUT OF THERE NOW!!!

Sorry. I’ve never heard of a “pretaken” class. I have to agree with Happymom: Your GC is a nitwit. Furthermore, I don’t understand how it makes any difference at all what grade you get if the class isn’t for credit.

If there is absolutely, positivey nothing else you can do in that time slot and a free period isn’t an option my suggestion would be to approach the teacher. Is it the same one you had last year? Perhaps he will let you out of the homework, since it’s clear you have mastered the material. Or perhaps he’ll let you do some kind of special project that’s of interest to you. Explain the situation and see if you can’t work out some kind of arrangement with the teacher ahead of time–before he flunks you.

Drop. Drop. Drop. Replace with Library Aide. What were you and your gc thinking?

I never said I cant do the work I honestly just dont want to lol. If i have to I will cuz it is the same work as last year. I guess Ill start actually doing my work in there for the most part. I looked at my transcript and i guess i got a B in there last year not an A- haha. And wat were we thinking? Uhh that there were no other options like i stated earlier. I tried everything. I cant drop the class because it is too far into the year to drop classes now.
