I'm a junior in high school, and I just finished my first semester finals. I received A's in all my classes (Chemistry, Digi Pho, AP English, AP U.S. History, Religion), but I failed my Honors Precalc final and went from a steady C to a D+. I plan on switching into an easier math class next semester that I know I can pass with a B. Will retaking the class over the summer help improve my college transcripts? Will I still be able to get into schools such as Cal Poly (San Luis Obispo), UCSB, UC Santa Cruz, and so forth? This has been stressing me out so much, since I have never failed a class before and as a sophmore had an average GPA of 3.85, along with scoring a 5 on the AP World History national test last year.

I’d definitely retake that class, whether or not your schools recalculate your GPA based on the grade you get in the summer. Just having it there will let them know you aren’t a slacker, just bad at math.

You have an awesome GPA, by the way. One poor grade (especially when made up) won’t ruin your chances at those schools.
