How will I be notified that I got accepted into a college?

<p>I've applied to California schools (CSU Long Beach, UCLA, UC San Diego, and UC Berkeley).
However I'm applying to private colleges (Stanford, Princeton, University of Chicago, Cornell, etc)</p>

<p>I read most of these colleges deadlines and a lot of them said they will notify acceptances on April 1st. However how will I know? I mean, do they still mail applicants letters? Do they update your application status online? Do they email you?</p>

<p>Please respond! I'm really curious.</p>

<p>They usually have portals for you to log into to check your status. They will first send you a letter in the mail or by email to tell you your username and password etc.</p>
